Independent Comparative Evaluation of Design-Build
versus Conventional Project Delivery for Municipal Water and Wastewater
Facilities
In conjunction with a well-respected and
experienced academic team, the Water Design-Build Council is undertaking a
study on the performance of design-build versus conventional design-bid-build
in municipal water and wastewater projects. The results of this evaluation
should enable owners and stakeholders to evaluate alternative project delivery
systems based on credible conclusions developed from a statistically
significant data set of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Water and Wastewater Design-Build Projects Can Accelerate the Effectiveness of the Economic Stimulus Package
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Congressional Budget Office estimate that a “gap” of hundreds of billions of dollars between current levels and needed levels of investment in our nation’s water and wastewater infrastructure. The Council is working aggressively to educate the new administration and Congress on the enormous need for investment in our nation’s aging water and wastewater systems. We are urging them to commit stimulus funds for water and wastewater projects and to specifically support design-build project delivery as a mechanism to accelerate those efforts.
Water Design-Build Council Visits with Local Communities on the Benefits of Design-Build Project Delivery
As cities across the country face the challenge of overburdened and underfunded water and wastewater infrastructure, the Water Design-Build Council has developed a speakers’ bureau to help educate local decision-makers on the benefits of design-build project delivery: innovation, speed, improved quality control, and single-point accountability.
